Alishan Day Tour
This Alishan day tour covers Longyin Temple, Fenqihu and the Alishan Forest Recreation Area. Guests ride the forest train to Alishan Station and explore the giant trees and Tsou culture.

Longyin Temple
Longyin Temple, dedicated to Ji Gong, is an important local landmark in Chukou. Construction began in August 1980, started by devoted followers who volunteered their labor with no outside funding. The deity enshrined here, Master Li Xiuyuan, is popularly known as Ji Gong and is revered for warding off misfortune and evil spirits.
The temple became famous in 1995 when the TV drama “Ji Gong” was filmed here. Every year on the 3rd day of the 10th lunar month, the day Ji Gong attained enlightenment, the temple holds a large fire-walking ceremony that draws worshippers and temple groups from across Taiwan. The ceremony is meant to ward off misfortune and evil, and carrying the deity statues across the fire is believed to strengthen their power.
Longyin Temple is a religious site and also a record of local culture and history, and visitors from around the world are welcome.

Fenqihu
Fenqihu is a small town in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, about 1,400 m above sea level, with a long history and beautiful natural scenery. It is best known for its railway culture. After the Alishan Forest Railway opened in 1912, Fenqihu Station became an important midway maintenance stop. Trains carrying timber and workers stopped here, and a local railway bento culture grew up around them.
The old street runs about 500 m, lined with stalls selling local products such as spicy wasabi, aiyu jelly seeds and tree tomatoes. Fenqihu was the largest trading center along the railway, and its hillside houses and mountain views have earned it the nickname “the Jiufen of southern Taiwan.”
Fenqihu was also once a center of wooden clog making, and you can see many styles of clogs at the clog museum. For a wider view, follow the trail up to the lookout and see the whole village below. It is a place where you can feel the town's long history.

Alishan Forest Recreation Area
Alishan is one of Taiwan's best-known natural sights, with rich culture and scenery. It is the homeland of the Tsou people, whose annual Mayasvi (war ceremony) and Life Bean Festival reflect deep cultural traditions. Tsou architecture and crafts, such as the kuba (men's meeting house) and leather carving, are symbols of their culture.
In nature, Alishan is famous for five wonders: sunrise, the sea of clouds, the railway, the forest and the sunset glow. Sunrise in the early morning and the glow at dusk are both well worth seeing. The sea of clouds is one of the Eight Views of Taiwan, and autumn is the best time to see it.
Alishan's ecology is also diverse. The vegetation changes with altitude, from subtropical to cool-temperate zones. In spring, mountain cherry, Yoshino cherry and peach trees bloom one after another, adding color to the valleys.
Alishan is a rewarding trip for nature lovers and for visitors interested in local culture.
