Taiwan Prefecture Confucian Examination Hall
The Taiwan Prefecture Confucian Examination Hall is the only Qing-dynasty examination hall building still standing in Taiwan. The 2019 restoration kept the original timber roof frame and added a new outer frame and interior. It hosts exhibitions and events from time to time and is a good place to learn about Taichung's history.

About Taiwan Prefecture Confucian Examination Hall
The Taiwan Prefecture Confucian Examination Hall is a historic building in Taichung's West District. It was built during the Qing dynasty for the imperial civil service examinations, and in the early Japanese era it was used as a temporary police office. When the prefectural hall was expanded, the main building was dismantled and moved. The part that survives today was kept because it served as a police club. It is the only Qing-dynasty examination hall building left in Taiwan and was registered as a municipal historic site in 2006.
To protect the site, the local government carried out restoration and renovation work in 2019, combining the existing roof frame with a new outer frame and interior layout. The restored hall is open to the public and is used from time to time for exhibitions and events.
Visitors can see an exhibition or simply look at the Qing-dynasty timber structure. It is an easy stop for anyone interested in Taichung's history.
