Zhongxiao Night Market is in Taichung's South District, near National Chung Hsing University, and is one of the city's most distinctive night markets. Unlike typical night markets, it has no game stalls or clothing shops. It is all about food: the shops and street stalls on both sides sell everything from traditional Taiwanese snacks to international dishes.

The food is varied. Some stalls are long-established, some are new, some are popular online and some are local secrets, each with its own signature dish. Zheng Lao Pai is the original stall of the market, serving smooth thick vermicelli soup with a rich broth, with stinky tofu and pig blood cake as add-ons. Wei Quan is a popular stall for tube rice cake, soft and sticky with a sweet, savory sauce, served with braised pork and pickled mustard greens. Yong De Tang sells job's tears milk.

There are also many drink shops, from chain brands to independent shops and from traditional tea drinks to creative ones, each with its own specialty, good for cooling down after a meal.

The market suits all kinds of eaters, meat lovers, vegetarians, those with a sweet tooth and fans of spicy food alike. Prices are low, not like the inflated prices at some tourist night markets, which is why locals also come here to stroll, snack and even have dinner. Many locals have fond memories of it, and it is a popular stop for visitors.
